California Travel Packages That Fit Your Travel Style
Published on : October 24, 2025
California is one of those places where you don’t need to travel far to feel like you’re in a completely different world. You can start your day surfing in the Pacific and end it surrounded by mountain pines. That variety is exactly what makes it a favourite for so many types of travellers. Whether it’s your first time or a return visit, how you travel matters just as much as where you go.
Some people like covering ground and discovering something new every day. Others prefer to stay put and soak things in slower. California travel packages can work either way. You might be planning theme park time with the kids or looking for peaceful national park trails. No matter your style, the key is building a plan that fits how you like to holiday.
Road Trippers Welcome: Discovering California by Car
There’s something about California that just suits a road trip. Maybe it’s the way the scenery keeps changing (coast, forest, desert, city) or maybe it’s the freedom to stop when something catches your eye. Either way, this is a state made for driving.
One of the most famous routes is Pacific Coast Highway 1, where you follow the ocean from San Francisco down through Big Sur, Monterey, Santa Barbara, all the way to Los Angeles or vice versa. This drive can reveal lots of small towns and hidden gems along the way. Another great road trip is the loop from San Francisco travelling through the iconic Napa Valley across to Yosemite National Park, then onward to Lake Tahoe, down to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and back around the coast back to San Francisco.
Or for something a bit different, try the desert run from Los Angeles to Greater Palm Springs, where Hollywood’s rich and famous was a local getaway, like Frank Sinatra who had a house built there and now travellers can book in a stay. With many attractions like Joshua Tree National Park and the Aerial Tramway which takes you up Mt San Jacinto Mountain and ascends to 8516 ft above sea level, Greater Palm Springs is sure to captivate you.
Having the car gives you flexibility, but it also means your days can get long if the plan isn’t right. That’s where pacing helps. Knowing where to stop, how long to stay, and what based-on-your-style extras to include makes a big difference. Photo stops, small towns, hiking trails, or coastal cafes—road trips work best when big views and little breaks are blended.
Travel USA offers self-drive California travel packages that include custom maps and itinerary’s, recommended scenic detours, and tips for less-crowded towns along the route.
For Families: Big Moments and Easy Days
Travelling with kids means building days with a different rhythm. California is great for it, with a good balance of adventure and downtime. San Diego is a popular choice with family-friendly beaches, the world-class zoo, SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo Safari Park and plenty of easy dining. Anaheim stands out for families too. Between theme parks and a range of hotels, there’s plenty of space for everyone.
With younger travellers, it helps to leave some unplanned time. Shared accommodation can mean less packing and moving, and building in slower mornings or pool afternoons can make each day feel smoother. Every day doesn’t have to be a big-ticket adventure.
Some families like to add gentle outdoor experiences. Paddle-boarding in Santa Barbara, hunting for tide pools in Laguna Beach, or running wild in Golden Gate Park are easy wins. The right base is important for this. Coastal towns that offer playgrounds, eateries, and quick access to the sand deliver flexibility so every day isn’t a rush to tick something off a list.
Families can benefit from California travel packages that include multiple-night stays at beach resorts, optional theme park add-ons, or bookings at family suites with kitchenette facilities.
Nature Lovers and National Parks Explorers
For those focused on nature, California has some real standouts. Yosemite might be the best-known, but Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Death Valley each have their own draw. These big-name parks each offer a unique feel and can be circled into a single trip if you want.
Getting the timing right is important. Yosemite Valley can feel full, so staying just outside the park and heading in early can mean quieter trails and more wildlife. In Sequoia, the trees are simply huge, and many nearby lodges upgrade the experience after a long day of walking.
If you’re fitting national parks in with city stops, keep an eye on spacing. Long drives can be great with the right sights, but towns like Oakhurst or Bishop make handy rests along the way. A plan that fits your style helps avoid too much time in transit and gives more space to actually enjoy where you are.
Travel USA’s California travel packages can include pre-booked park passes, reliable rental vehicles, and flexible stays in both boutique hotels and scenic lodges.
Urban Style: Culture, Food and Classic Sights
Not every traveller is after remote trails and forest quiet. If you love busy streets, California’s cities have plenty for you. San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Santa Barbara each bring something unique to the mix.
San Francisco offers a blend of classic sights like Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and unique neighbourhoods. Each area Chinatown, the Mission, or the Castro has local food and art to match. Los Angeles covers more ground, where you can move from studio tours to live music in a single day or spot a mural while wandering café-lined suburbs. San Diego has a great coastline where seals are a common site and the city is buzzing with things to do, such as Balboa Park to Little Italy in downtown and Embarcadero along the waterfront which houses the USS Midway aircraft carrier.
Santa Barbara is smaller, offering beaches and relaxed city energy where you can have art, wine, and sand all within walking distance. The key is pacing your days, so you don’t end up rushing from one sight to the next. Urban-focused California travel packages can mix food tours, live music bookings, and time to just walk and take it in.
Design Your Dream California Getaway: Personalised Itineraries for Every Explorer
There isn’t a single right way to see California. Some people want big drives and a new view every morning. Others are happy staying put and watching the sunset change over the coast. Some love fast days filled with zip lines or baseball, while others want slow brunches and late evenings. The real value is planning so your holiday fits the way you like to travel, not just the places you want to see.
– Go wide or go deep, both can lead to great memories
– Build in your must-see spots but leave room for surprises
– Use California travel packages that match your pace and give structure without taking away flexibility
– Match locations, travel methods, and stopovers with what feels right
Turning good sights into great experiences comes down to planning with your own style in mind. Whether California is a new adventure or a repeat favourite, a holiday matched to you always makes the best kind of memories.
If California’s mix of coasts, cities and national parks sounds like your kind of adventure, we’d love to help you plan a trip that feels just right. Whether you’re after laid-back surf towns, big-name theme parks or wide-open scenic drives through redwood forests, we can build an itinerary that suits how you like to travel. We design all our California travel packages to match what matters most to you – from the places you stay to how much distance you want to cover each day. At Travel USA, it’s all about making the experience easy and shaped around your style, not someone else’s. Ready to start sketching out your California getaway? Andrew and Sean’s first-hand knowledge is what really sets them apart — they know the small details, hidden gems, and all the little nooks and crannies you’d never find in a world of generic, AI-generated itineraries. They’re always quick to reply, and between them seem to know everything — from the best Star Wars experiences at Disney (I had no idea you could build your own lightsaber!), to sipping champagne on the floor of the Grand Canyon or securing the best seats at the Grand Ole Opry. Proper bucket-list stuff – 100% recommend Travel USA.

We could not have done it ourselves and Travel USA’s instructions were ON-POINT! We liked the mix of transport that was organised for us ie. bus, ferry and rail which made for an interesting experience. Accommodation was brilliant throughout and the Faraway at Martha’s Vineyard was the most interesting hotel we have ever stayed at – we even had a record player in our room with 2 LP’s – one of them a Bob Dylan album!

I have been telling everyone and anyone who says they are interested in travelling to America to get in touch with you as we really had the most amazing time. We really can’t thank you enough for your exceptional service during our recent trip to the states. Your attention to detail, organisation, and approachability truly made all the difference in ensuring we had a smooth and enjoyable experience. (The highlight was definitely the pick-up truck you organised – you hit the nail on the head with that one!)
You really paid attention to what we wanted to get out of our trip, and everything was planned in such detail, and ran smoothly. Your expert recommendations were spot on, and we felt so well taken care of the entire time. Thanks to you, we had an unforgettable time, and we’re already talking about planning our next adventure with you to the Yellowstone country! I hope we can work together again soon in the not so distant future 🙂 Thank you again!

We were very pleased with the itinerary Travel USA arranged for us, there was a good mix of accommodation and towns. The travel distance each day was just right giving us plenty of time to do other things each day. Florence was a lovely little town and because we were there on a Friday night, we had the added bonus of enjoying their once a month street markets and open air live music, it was a lovely night. We also appreciated the contact you made while we away advising us of things to pre book etc. There is a lot to think about especially as we were a group of 8 and sometimes 10. We would definitely recommend your services to other people, and by using your expertise it took the stress away from us as a group trying to decide what to do.

Now that we are back from our holiday to the States, I just want to say thank you for your part in organising an amazing itinerary for us. We had such an awesome time. We loved experiencing New York and everything it has to offer; we were pleased to be staying 8 nights there. The Go City Pass you recommended made visiting each attraction easy and it encouraged us to get out and explore. The rest of our itinerary went without any problems, the accommodation you selected was very well located, making it easy for us to get around without needing transport. We had a lot of fun. Back to the routine of work now – thanks again for everything.

Andrew assisted me with a group booking of 5 couples travelling to the USA for 5 weeks. They wanted to do a “road trip” through the Southern States and spend time in New York. Andrew’s knowledge of the USA is an incredible asset to people planning to travel here, he put together an awesome route, recommended great hotels in the best locations and had so much information on city passes, things to do and places of interest. As a travel agent I found that Travel USA had the best contacts and information from everything from rental cars, hotels, shows, tours etc and they outlined all of this in very detailed itineraries ready to give straight to my clients. He provided a professional detailed itinerary for the group that went 100% perfectly. Andrew made my job easy, and my clients were extremely happy with their holiday plans. I will definitely be using Andrew and his company in the future and would recommend anyone when planning to go to the USA to use their services.
